That’s why we built Personalized product recommendation widgets in the checkout page.

Backed by Shopify’s modern and secure Checkout Extensions, this is a way for you to place beautiful, intelligent recommendation widgets directly on your checkout page. It’s a final, gentle nudge that shows your customers you understand their needs, helping you increase cart value while creating a more thoughtful shopping experience.

Three AI-powered ways to boost your checkout

This new placement is powered by the same robust AI and rule-based logic you already love, now optimized for the checkout experience. You can choose from three distinct recommendation types with AI powers to perfectly match your strategy.

  • Personalized Recommendations: This is the ultimate 1:1 marketing tool. The widget uses our powerful AI to analyze the shopper’s behavior and the items in their cart to display products they are uniquely likely to love. It’s the perfect way to create a "just for you" moment that feels both personal and helpful.
  • Frequently Bought Together (coming soon): The classic, high-converting cross-sell. This widget automatically shows items that are commonly purchased with the products already in the customer's cart. It’s the ideal way to suggest essential accessories or perfect pairings, like offering a shoe care kit to a customer buying leather boots.
  • Related Items (coming soon): Get the best of both worlds with AI-powered suggestions for complementary or alternative products. You can configure this widget to show items that complete a look (complementary) or similar items they might also like (alternative), giving you incredible flexibility to upsell and cross-sell based on the entire cart.

In addition to AI-powered product recommendations at checkout, we will soon release a manual option for merchants to hand-pick recommended products and other static widgets.

Your quick start guide to Checkout Recommendations

Ready to get started? It only takes a few minutes to set up your first widget.

  1. Create Your Widget: Navigate to Recommendation > Recommendation widgets in your Boost app admin and click Add new widget.
  2. Select the Page and Type: In the first step, choose Checkout page as your target page, then select the type of recommendation you want to create (like Personalized recommendation) and the secondary algorithm.

  1. Customize Your Widget: Now, the fun part. Configure your widget's rules and content just like you would for any other recommendation. Then, head to the visual settings to adjust the layout (grid only for now), title, and font size to perfectly match your brand.

  1. Add it to Your Checkout: Once you save your widget, you'll be prompted to add the app block to your store. This will take you to your Shopify Checkout Editor, where you can easily add the "Checkout Upsell" block and drag and drop it to your desired position.

  1. Go Live: After placing the block, head back to the Boost app and click I'm all done. Your widget is now live and ready to start boosting your AOV.

Best practices for a high-converting checkout

To get the most out of this powerful new feature, here are a few tips from our team:

  • Keep It Simple: The checkout page is a high-intent environment. Avoid clutter by starting with just one recommendation widget and limiting the display to 2-4 products. The goal is to assist, not distract.
  • Match the Offer to the Moment: Use Personalized Recommendations to create a moment of surprise and delight with a tailored suggestion. After the next release, you can use Frequently Bought Together for obvious and essential add-ons.
  • Use Clear, Action-Oriented Titles: Instead of a generic title, use clear and compelling copy like, "Complete Your Order," "You Might Also Like," or "Don't Forget These."
